The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchez highlighted the excellent cooperation relations with Morocco, underlining the “strategic importance” of maintaining the “best relations” with the Kingdom.
“It is in our interest to maintain the best relations not only for Spain but also for the European Union,” said Pedro Sanchez on Tuesday evening during a debate in the Congress of Deputies.
Noting that ”facts and reality confirm the importance of Morocco for Spain and for Europe”, the head of the Spanish executive assured that he ”will always defend the preservation of good relations with the Morocco”.
And to note that trade with Morocco increased by 33% last year, to reach nearly 10 billion euros and the arrivals of irregular migrants recorded a significant drop. “Of all the migratory routes to Europe, the only one that has diminished is that from Morocco to Spain,” Sanchez said.
In this sense, the President of the Spanish government emphasized the “importance” of the next Morocco/Spain High Level Meeting to give new impetus to bilateral cooperation.
On the basis of the new roadmap, adopted last April, on the occasion of Pedro Sanchez’s visit to Morocco, at the invitation of HM King Mohammed VI, the two countries are committed, among other things, to dealing with subjects of common interest in a “spirit of trust and consultation”, while reactivating the working groups created between the two countries to relaunch bilateral multi-sector cooperation.
