The criminal lawyer Carlos Caro considered this Friday that the former president of the Republic, Pedro Castillocould receive a sentence of more than 10 years for the alleged crime of rebellion.
In an interview with the program Without return of RPPTV, pointed out that this case – which was opened after the failed coup d’état on December 7, 2022 – is “very limited”. “This trial can move very quickly and could mean the first conviction against Castillo,” he commented.
For Caro Coria, the Public Ministry in the next six months already “could issue a tax accusation.” “And after the sanitation process, intermediate stage, which can last about six months, in 2024 Castillo is already facing the oral trial,” he said.
The lawyer said that, if the court acts quickly, the sentence against the ex-president could know the same 2024.
About the Petroperu case
When asked about the Petroperú case and the Transport and Housing ministries, in which the former head of state is involved for the alleged crime of criminal organization, Carlos Caro replied:
“In this case we are going to have a much longer process. They are public tenders and according to the times of the Prosecutor’s Office, the analysis, the expertise, this process only in high school will take two or three years, with which the oral trial will still take place in at least 4 or 5 years ahead.”
The lawyer said that for this alleged crime Pedro Castillo could be sentenced to more than 30 years in prison. “The penalties run in parallel. There is a recasting process,” he added.
