The Paris Center Pompidou is dedicating the first survey exhibition in France to the painter Georgia O’Keeffe (1887–1986) from today until December 6th. O’Keeffe’s unique flower paintings are world famous.
The show, comprising around 100 works, makes it clear that the US artist, who is considered one of the most famous painters of American art of the past century, was modern in every era.
From the first abstract, dreamlike drawings to symbolistic images of animal skulls and sensual and erotic flower pictures in close-up, works are represented across all creative phases.
The painter, who was 98 years old, played an important role in America all her life. Her works are only found in a few public collections in Europe. The exhibition will also be on view from January 23 to May 22, 2022 at the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen near Basel.
