A drama in the streets of the capital. On the night of Saturday to Sunday in Paris, a pedestrian died, after being fatally mowed down by a driver who was fleeing the police after refusing to submit to a road check in Pantin (Seine-Saint-Denis), a-t -we learned Sunday from a police source.

Around 3 p.m., a police source told AFP that the suspect had been arrested. The driver abandoned his car in a street in the 19th arrondissement, in the northeast of the capital, the same source added, confirming information from BFM TV.

An investigation opened for aggravated manslaughter

Around 3:30 a.m., a police patrol circulating on avenue Edouard-Vaillant in Pantin tried to check a BMW, which did not comply and fled in the direction of Paris. “The fugitive successively takes many arteries of the 19th arrondissement and distances the police at the exit of the Porte de la Villette tunnel”, according to the police version.

The police are then “informed” that a pedestrian was knocked down by the fugitive at Macdonald Boulevard, the same source continued. Despite the intervention of the emergency services, the victim died on the spot.

“An investigation has been opened on the grounds of manslaughter aggravated by the hit-and-run and entrusted to the STJA”, the Service for the judicial treatment of accidents, said the prosecution.
