Paolini challenges Jabeur, Giorgi also on the draw

Red light for Jasmine Paolini in the first round of the “Mutua Madrid Open”, WTA 1000 with a prize pool of 6,575,560 euros that is being disputed on the red clay of Madrid’s Caja Magicain Spain (combined with a Masters 1000 Atp).

The 26 year old from Castelnuovo di Garfagnanan.46 WTA, yielded 76 (8) 61, in an hour and 22 minutes of play, alla tunisina Ons Jabeur, 10 of the ranking and 8 of the seeding. First set played on an equal footing by the blue against one who certainly does not make her power her mantra (even if a couple of crossed rights have left the Tuscan tennis player immobile) but who plays a tennis different from all the others.

Between the Tuscan player and the 27-year-old from Ksar El Hellar – the first Arab tennis player ever to reach the world top ten – there were no precedents. Decided departure of Jasmine who jumped 3-0 despite Ons having had the chance to win the two games with the blue at bat. Jabeur recovered the break (3-2), Paolini took it back (4-2) but the Tunisian took her back on 4 all. Then it was she who wasted twice the opportunity to serve for the set (at 5-4 and at 6-5) and it was the tiebreaker who decided. The two fought shoulder to shoulder and Jabeur managed to win 10-8 only at the fifth set-point.

Paolini continued to fight and believe it but in the fourth game of the second half, with a crossed right in the race, Jabeur broke her serve (3-1): Jasmine missed the chance to recover the break (granted with a double fault) and Ons, very casual on the net, took the opportunity to confirm the advantage (4-1). Unleashed the Tunisian with a millimeter lob, she again removed the serve from the blue (5-1) and shortly after she signed the 6-1 with the fifth game won in a row, closed with a right at the crossing that forced Paolini to ‘ mistake.
