Rossi: Northwest Tuscany the most affected
Northwest Tuscany was the most affected by this epidemic, but the regional health system has been able to respond to the emergency. This was said by the president of the Tuscany region, Enrico Rossi, when he met journalists on the premises of the new intensive care unit obtained in the disused former emergency room of the Santa Chiara hospital in Pisa. Overall – the Tuscan governor explained – we still have 66 intensive care beds available plus another 20 sub intensive care beds throughout the north west area. Here, if there is a need, there are 10 plus others of sub intensive care that can start working immediately. Another 12 are in Campo di Marte, Lucca, and other workstations have been set up at the hospital of Massa and Livorno
More links for hospitals
Two more connections for the Ponte a Niccheri hospital and additional festive rides for the Careggi hospital. These are the changes to the programming of local public transport, as requested by the health professionals, decided by the permanent table on the Tpl for the management of services during the Coronavirus emergency, set up by the Tuscany Region together with the service companies. From today, explains a note, the original bus connection to the hospital of Bagno a Ripoli (Florence) via San Donato in Collina has been restored, with a departure from Ponte a Niccheri to the Valdarno. The ride coming from Dicomano, in transit from Ponte a Ema and usually direct via highway to the Gkn company, will also be extended to Ponte a Niccheri. For the emergency period, the buses that make this journey, once they arrive in Ponte a Ema, will reach the hospital in Ponte a Niccheri instead of going to the A1. The connections with Careggi have also been enhanced: on holidays, pairs of trips to and from Montevarchi will be added in correspondence with the times of the three shifts scheduled for the nurses.
The ordinance to hire healthcare workers
Permanent recruitment of personnel within the regional health service. An ordinance provides for it, number 19 from the beginning of the Coronavirus emergency, signed by the President of the Tuscany Region Enrico Rossi. The hires, explains a note, concern all the professional skills necessary in the pathways of assistance, diagnosis, treatment and prevention. We are proceeding on the basis of the relative rankings available from Estar. The ordinance is valid for 90 days from today. The regional health system has already provided, or is in the process of hiring, 433 social and health workers, 1323 nurses and 200 doctors. In the latter case, contacts and proposals are continuing and it is expected to reach the needs as soon as possible, estimated at around 400 doctors
The special units for tampons
283 doctors have applied for the call of the ASL Toscana Centro to be part of the mobile units that will go from house to house to swab citizens. The service should start operating on Monday. The staff and the contractual formula are already there, only a few details about insurance coverage remain to be filed. I am convinced that by tomorrow (today, ed) we will be able to formally close this game, assures Vittorio Boscherini, Florentine secretary of the Fimmg family doctors’ union. Last weekend the ASL Center had launched a call for tenders to find staff for the service, renamed Special Continuity Assistance Units: the availability arrived from almost 300 candidates, including doctors on call, substitutes for family doctors, specializing in general medicine, even family doctors on duty. Throughout the Company’s territory, Florence, Prato and Pistoia, there will be 33 mobile units, one for every 47 thousand people (the Region’s request would be one for every 30 thousand people). How will they work? A doctor, with a contract as a freelancer, accompanied by a nurse, will go to the houses to make the swab, from the people reported as at risk by the family doctor or the pediatrician of free choice. A way to speed up the examination operations, and therefore do more, but also to safeguard family doctors, instead sending potential infected persons home to a number of small but well-equipped and protected patients. The teams will in fact be equipped with suits, masks and gloves. The shifts will be 6 or 12 hours, the service will take place 7 days a week from 8 to 20.
The first 120 blood tests in Careggi
There are 3,084 tests with the swab performed Thursday in the Tuscan laboratories, a record. Until a week ago, before the Region decided to significantly widen the screening, the average was 800 per day. These tests are currently reserved for two categories: those who are hospitalized and those who, having had contact with a known positive, develop symptoms. The goal of the Region is to reach 4,000 per day. In some hospitals a double check, blood test and swab test was also started on health workers: 120 were performed in Careggi in one day and a half. Serological tests started, Wednesday, also at the Scotte di Siena and in the South East ASL Tested all health workers, we will pass to family doctors, 118 operators and employees of private health. Then over a million serological tests on the population.
The number of inpatients in intensive care in Tuscan hospitals continues to slow down, now 259, with about 90 places still free: only 8 more places are occupied than on Wednesday. The most critical situation remains in the ASL North West, where there are only 3 high-intensity beds still available, but with 19 free places at the University hospital of Pisa.
The mayor of Lucca resigned
The mayor of Lucca, Alessandro Tambellini, was discharged yesterday from the San Luca hospital where he was hospitalized on March 16. The first citizen, who tested positive for coronavirus, had developed pneumonia after an initial phase of home care. Her health is now good. But the recovery will still be long.
Quarantine in Coverciano
The ASL Toscana Centro, after having activated, about ten days ago in Novoli, the first hotel for the quarantines of coronavirus positive, but asymptomatic, announces the inauguration of 5 other accommodation facilities: 2 in the Florentine, 2 in the Pistoia area and 1 in the Prato area. One of these is the guesthouse of the technical center of Coverciano, which will be inaugurated tomorrow, thanks to the FIGC president Gabriele Gravina and Palazzo Vecchio.
