5G, extremely fast charging, innovative cam, low price: what Oppo offers with the Reno 6 should make some competitors sweat.
Oppo – this name shouldn’t mean a lot to many. After all, the Chinese manufacturer is only just beginning to make a name for itself in Austria with its cell phones. The situation is different around the world: Oppo has already fought its way into the top 3 in many countries, and is in line with Samsung and Apple. With the latest device, the Oppo Reno 6, the manufacturer is sure to attract attention. Because the mobile phone offers luxury equipment at a price of 499 euros.
It was officially presented on September 9th. So what can the device do? Anyone who picks up the Reno 6 for the first time will be amazed that it is not lightweight. At 182 grams, it is about as heavy as an iPhone 12 and therefore looks very valuable. What stands out is the 6.43-inch display, which, with a refresh rate of 90 Hz, represents a good mixture of fluid display and battery consumption that is not too high.
Oppo is ahead of Apple
Several lenses are installed on the back: The main camera has a resolution of 64 megapixels, plus there is a wide-angle camera (8 MP) and a macro lens (2 MP). The camera is convincing: The new video functions are also exciting. The background is blurred with technical tricks, which almost creates a cinematic effect.
This so-called bokeh video effect is also expected to be in the upcoming iPhone. So Oppo is ahead of Apple here. In the test, the separation of foreground and background usually worked well, but it was not always 100% convincing. The manufacturer could certainly improve this with updates.
Full in 30 minutes
Keyword software: The Reno 6 runs Android 11 with Oppos own interface ColorOS 11.3. The device offers 128 GB of internal storage space, which, however, cannot be expanded. 5G radio technology is also supported. The best feature is fast charging. The battery is full in a flash – in our test it took a little more than 30 minutes from 0 to 100 percent. The device also offers space for two SIM cards. “It’s amazing what this cell phone can do,” said a comment from the author’s environment.
The design is also striking: the Arctic Blue version of the back shimmers in white and blue tones. The surface has the advantage that no fingerprints are visible on it. The front, more precisely the lower area, is intended for fingerprints. There is a sensor behind the screen with which the smartphone can be unlocked with a fingerprint.
The scope of delivery is also exceptional. In addition to the mobile phone, the special quick charger and a cover are included in the box. In terms of workmanship, performance and scope, you should think that the device costs at least 800 euros. But it does not. At the market launch, it costs 499 euros.
Conclusion – with a catch
Sounds almost too good to be true? A little, yes. Because there is a catch: the smartphone is not waterproof. Diving is not allowed, but rain shouldn’t affect the cell phone. If that doesn’t bother you, the Reno 6 is a really good device for the price. In addition to the Reno 6, Oppo has also unveiled the Pro model. This is a bit more expensive at 799 euros. Among other things, there is an improved camera for this.
