Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) reported that one person died and another disappeared this friday after a fire caused by a electrical storm at the Madero refineryin Tamaulipas.
Lightning caused a truck at the site to catch fire, Pemex said in a statement, causing an oil well to catch fire as well.
“Hoy, At approximately 04:45 hours, at the Madero Refinery, Tamaulipas, a meteorological phenomenon due to an electrical storm occurred. As a result of this, an emergency warning was reported from the operating personnel of the effluent treatment plant, upon observing an empty pressure truck (UPV) on fire, near the SA-1 and SA-2 oil separators, towards where the fire was directed and caused the pit to burn.”
He added that specialized personnel immediately activated the corresponding protocols and with the support of two firefighting trucks and the water network contained the fireSubsequently, actions were taken to cool the separator with foam injection.
He explained that around 6:30 am on Friday morning, the body of an employee of the Amarelo Power contractor was found, while an employee of the GMG contractor was missing.
Pemex “deeply” regretted the worker’s death and sent its condolences to family and friends. Likewise, he said, he helps the competent authorities in the search for the disappeared person.
