The chimpanzee died last Saturday at a zoo in San Francisco. According to the zoo, Cobby was known as a social animal that brings other chimpanzees together. His female companions, Minnie and Maggie, will miss him terribly, San Francisco Zoo wrote on Twitter.
Chimpanzee Cobby has reached a respectable age at 63 years old. Chimpanzees live an average of 33 years in the wild and often older in zoos because of veterinary care, good housing and daily care.
Cobby also starred on television in his younger years. He starred in a television series in the 1960s, in which he tried out human activities (such as typing on a typewriter). Also a few years ago a documentary about Cobby and his time on television was made.
