Olaf Scholz agrees to supply Marder tanks to Greece

Ukraine continues to demand support with heavy weapons. Germany wants to provide more tanks with the help of Greece. According to information from t-online, it is about the marten type.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has announced a tank ring exchange with Greece in favor of Ukraine. “We will provide German infantry fighting vehicles,” said Scholz on Tuesday after talks with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on the sidelines of the EU summit in Brussels. “This will now be discussed in detail between the defense ministries and can then be implemented quickly.”

What has already been agreed with the Czech Republic is planned for Greece, said Scholz. The Czech Republic is to receive 15 Leopard 2 tanks from industrial stocks for the supply of Soviet-designed tanks to Ukraine. Scholz gave no details of the ring exchange planned with Greece. However, as t-online learned from government circles, the Greek armed forces are to receive Marder-type armored personnel carriers. The Greek Army has Soviet BMP-1 armored personnel carriers.

Mitsotakis published a photo on Twitter showing him shaking hands with Scholz. He wrote that he spoke to the chancellor about supporting Ukraine, without giving any details. He also informed Scholz about Turkey’s “provocative and aggressive rhetoric”, according to the Greek prime minister.
