ÖBAG: Initiative for a sustainable future by leading companies in Austria – registration is now possible

The aim of the Austrian Sustainability Data Science Challenge 2021, which will take place in autumn 2021, is to determine the ecological footprint of properties on the basis of data science models and to show ways in which Co2 emissions can be reduced, biodiversity promoted and renewable energy sources used can. More and more companies are using data-based technologies to counteract climate change. With more than 30 percent, the building sector, along with industry, transport and agriculture, is one of the largest sources of greenhouse gases in Europe. At the same time, there is still a great deal of untapped potential in the area of ​​renewable energies. The initiative launched by the ÖBAG holding companies, together with Capgemini and Microsoft, is dedicated to these two challenges. In the course of the challenge, the challenges and optimization potential of individual properties with regard to the promotion of biodiversity and the use of new energy concepts using big data are to be analyzed.

The objective for the participants is to develop an innovative approach to reducing the CO2 footprint of entire properties and real estate portfolios on the basis of a wide variety of data (including aerial photographs, weather data and energy consumption) and through the use of artificial intelligence. According to the initiators, a holistic approach for the integration of energy management and open space design is essential in order to be able to use the AI ​​model for other areas of application in the future.

Bachelor and master students with data science knowledge as well as data science professionals and startups are invited to the competition. Capgemini and Microsoft support the participants in the development and implementation of scalable AI models. As an expert and service provider of Microsoft Azure, A1 will help the participants of the challenge with technical questions.
