Not Zidane.. Saint-Germain sets its sights on a “specific coach”

And the French sports newspaper L’Equipe reported, on Monday, that Galtier was ready to take over the training of Paris Saint-Germain, but the announcement of his appointment must wait for the departure of Argentine Pochettino.

“We have a shortlist of coaches,” Qatari Al-Khelaifi told Le Parisien newspaper in a detailed interview. “We are in talks with Nice. It’s not a secret.”

Pochettino, the current coach of the team, who was appointed 18 months ago, came under pressure after failing to help Paris Saint-Germain to continue its campaign in the Champions League last season, after being eliminated in the last 16.

Galtier coached Nice before the start of last season after leading his former club Lille to win their first league title since 2011 the previous season.

Al-Khelaifi also appeared to put an end to the persistent speculation about France legend Zinedine Zidane, rejecting reports that the club negotiated with the 1998 World Cup winner about taking over as coach of the team next season.

Al-Khelaifi said: “Many clubs are interested in contracting him, including the national teams, but we have never negotiated with him.”
