No wetlands law: organizations marched on the Monument

Socio-environmental organizations promoting a law to identify, protect and regulate activities in wetlands they marched to the Flag Monument this Thursday afternoon to reject a new delay in this long-awaited debate, which began ten years ago in Congress, and they said that there is no political will to “stop burning or preserve wetland environments.”

The multisectoral for wetlands called to mobilize a statement entitled “Treason: they suspend the plenary meeting of commissions”. Other groups, such as the Ecologist Workshop and Environmental Red Alert, also participated.

One of the protesters told the Radio 2 mobile that among environmental organizations there is “a lot of outrage” and that is why it is important “to continue in the streets, with the fight”.

In addition, he said that they hope “that soon there will be a new meeting of the plenary meeting of commissions” to debate the projects of a wetland law.

In the text of the call, the organizations said: “After delaying and obstructing the consideration of the Wetlands Act project by the Agriculture and Livestock Commission last Thursday, we have seen during the week how the power of the lobbyists was received by the said commission in the meeting of the 27th, and had a particular media presence that succeeded in suspending the plenary session of commissions that was to take place today”.

The text of the Multisectorial adds as context: “It takes place at the same time as the Mesa de Enlace threatens (falsely) with a future of poverty and hunger if the law is enacted. In agreement, the governors of the north meet in Washington to do business for lithium and “rare metals”. In the city of Rosario, smoke is still inhaled from the systematically burned wetland.

For the socio-environmental activists, the deputies “They chose to ignore the people, preferring to shake hands with businesses for the few.”

“Today, Thursday, we mobilized at the Monument at 17:00 (as happened last August 10 with a massive act), to make ourselves heard again for a Wetlands Act, condemn and show that it is indeed political power has no interest in preventing wetland environments from being burned or preserved and with them the quality of health and life of millions of people”, the statement continues.

“There is no more time for lobbyists or lukewarmness. They are with the consensual project or with ecocide. They are with the consensual project or they are accomplices of the owners of the fire and the cleaning”, he adds and concludes with the slogans: #natreg and #consensual project.

In similar terms they are expressed from the Ecologist workshop: “Without healthy wetlands, production is not possible. Without healthy wetlands, community life and roots are not possible. A sanction of a law of minimum budgets protecting these ecosystems, which are already deeply degraded, is urgent.”

“Deputies, until when will you decide on the basis of the mercantilist lobby? It is urgent that they settle the debt with the people, nature and democracy once and for all. Governors fulfill their mission to rule for the people and not for the big economic interests, leaving only disease and destruction behind the blindness of capital accumulation. Enough of delays, enough of ecocide and political and economic collusion,” they added.
