After playing 541 NHL games (100 points) with the Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks, Nashville Predators and Pittsburgh Penguins, defenseman Yannick Weber has decided to join Switzerland. The 32-year-old has agreed for three years with the ZSC Lions with whom he will wear the number 6.
Weber left Switzerland in 2006 to join the Kitchener Rangers OHL club. In 2007, he was selected by the Habs in the 3rd round (73rd rank). After 5 seasons in Montreal, he joined Vancouver before spending 4 seasons with the Predators. Last year, he signed a contract with the Penguins with whom he only played 2 games.
ZSC Lions sporting director Sven Leuenberger is delighted with Weber’s return to Switzerland: “Yannick is a strong and experienced defender. He can be used in both boxplay and powerplay. Especially for our power play, it was important to have a second shooter from the right besides Noreau after Pettersson left. . Yannick will help us with his very good shot “.
