A sharp and bright display, a strong, replaceable battery that can be charged wirelessly, NFC for contactless payment and also made in Germany – that’s the current GS5 smartphone from Gigaset.

The new model stands in the tradition of the strengths of the GS4 and thus builds on the success story of the 2020 model. Sasha is also back – the singer and entertainer remains an ambassador for the smartphones that are produced in his home state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

When the last smartphone “Made in Germany” was presented, the media were unanimous: From the CHIP to the world, from the Computer Bild to the SAT.1 breakfast television, the Gigaset GS4 received a lot of recognition. Now the 2021 model is here with the GS5. Just in time for Christmas business.

Longer breath – the inner values decide

Much praised in the GS4 and consistently further developed in the GS5: The device has a real replaceable battery – that is sustainable and unusual. Most of the batteries in smartphones are permanently installed. If there is no time or opportunity to charge while on the go, the empty battery can simply be removed and a full replacement battery inserted. The GS5 can last a full weekend trip without a power socket. The device is also part of the Gigaset Battery Save Initiative: The charging limit, which is preset to 90 percent, extends the battery life by up to 50 percent. In the long term, this will help to reduce the globally increasing amount of battery waste.

The Gigaset GS5 with exchangeable battery can also charge wirelessly.

The new Helio G85 processor from MediaTek has eight cores – applications start without delay and run smoothly. Regardless of whether Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok, Teams, Outlook and Workplace or Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube. At the same time, the processor has a more efficient energy management and pulls less on the battery than that of the GS4. It has grown slightly with a capacity of 4,500 mAh. In combination, this provides five hours more talk time – the GS5 can last up to 25 hours in the 4G network. Charging is still either wirelessly according to the Qi standard or via the USB-C port in around 120 minutes from empty to full.

High resolution meets variable aperture

At 48 megapixels, the GS5 offers three times the resolution of the GS4’s camera. But the number of pixels does not only determine the quality of the photos – the aperture plays an important role in the image quality. With the GS5, the aperture of the aperture adapts to the lighting conditions. The wide F1.8 opening ensures that enough light for good photos reaches the camera sensor at dusk or in the dark – the LED flash provides support if necessary. In better light conditions, the opening is reduced to F2.2 and thus allows a greater depth of field. The main camera with autofocus is supplemented by a second lens for ultra-wide-angle or macro shots and a resolution of 8 megapixels. The clever camera software lets you choose whether all the necessary settings and image optimizations are made automatically or whether the photographer himself determines the parameters in expert mode. The GS5 records videos at 1,440p (Quad HD). And the front camera also tops that of the GS4 with a resolution of 16 megapixels and an aperture of 2.0. Perfect selfies are guaranteed – thanks to the display flash even in the dark: the screen briefly turns completely white and as bright as possible to brighten the faces in the picture. Incidentally, all cameras do not have a frame and are embedded in the front and back – that looks good and prevents tipping when the smartphone is on the table.

Good stays good – the trumps of the GS5

With the 2020 model, Gigaset has set standards that will continue to apply: production continues in Bocholt, North Rhine-Westphalia. Manufacturing in Germany secures attractive jobs, ensures greater independence from international supply chains and enables sustainable economic activity through cooperation with regional partners.

The GS5 also comes with dual SIM in addition to the memory card slot. It has a bright, 6.3-inch, high-resolution Full HD + V-Notch display, NFC for cashless payments, for example with Google Pay, Bluetooth 5.0, a notification LED and a 3.5mm jack socket for connecting headphones – even in the Premium segment is no longer a matter of course. For greater accuracy in location-based services such as Google Maps or the apps from mobility providers such as ShareNow, Lime, Tier or Voi, Gigaset has also given the GS5 the ability to position the GS5 using the beidou satellite navigation system. Together with the services A-GPS, Glonass and the European system Galileo of the EU, the GS5 determines its own location quickly and extremely precisely.

Expandable memory

If the generous 128 GB device memory is not sufficient: With a microSD card, up to 512 GB can easily be added. And Gigaset is already guaranteeing that the installed Android 11.0 operating system will be updated to version 12.0. Security updates included for three years.

The singer and entertainer Sasha is also staying with Gigaset for the second year – he is the face of the campaign for the new GS5. The Gigaset GS5 is available in stationary and online shops as well as in the Gigaset online shop for 299 euros (RRP).
