The mountain town of Machu Picchu was founded in the 15th century, but abandoned a century later after the arrival of the Spanish. The settlement was rediscovered at the end of the 19th century, today it is a World Heritage Site and a popular tourist destination.
When the authorities gave the film studio permission to Transformers: The Awakening of the Beasts shooting for four days at Machu Picchu, the archaeological administrator of the site emphasized that only the human protagonists would come by. “No robot enters Machu Picchu, not even a robot’s hand. They will be added digitally later.”
