Today, July 27th, Netflix released the trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s first animated film, Pinocchio. In the film, Ewan McGregor plays the role of Sebastian J. Cricket, a cricket who lives in Pinocchio’s wooden heart and serves as the film’s narrator. Del Toro collaborated with the Jim Henson Company and ShadowMachine to create an animated film based on the novel by Carlo Collodi, which tells the story of a boy doll coming to life before your eyes.
“No other art form has influenced my life and work more than animation, and no character in history has had such a deep personal connection to me as Pinocchio,” del Toro said when Netflix announced the film in 2018.
In our story, Pinocchio is an innocent soul with a carefree father who is lost in a world he cannot comprehend. He embarks on an extraordinary journey that leads him to a deep understanding of his father and the real world. I’ve wanted to make this film for as long as I can remember. After the incredible experience we had on Trollhunters, I’m grateful that the talented Netflix team is giving me the chance of a lifetime to introduce viewers around the world to my version of this weird doll turned into a real boy.
Pinnochio will debut in theaters in November and on Netflix in December.
