Atlanta ended the regular season with a victory by winning 130-114 in Houston. Clint Capela’s Hawks therefore finish 9th in the Eastern Conference and will therefore have to face the 10th Charlotte on Wednesday in a first play-off.
Unhappy finalist of the Eastern Conference last year, Atlanta must win 2 matches to reach the playoffs. If they win at home against the Hornets, Capela and Co. will face the loser of Brooklyn-Cleveland on Friday for the 8th and last ticket giving access to the playoffs.
The Hawks – who would challenge Miami in the event of qualification – dominated the debates on the floor of the worst team of the season (20 wins for 62 losses for the Rockets). Atlanta picked up its 43rd success in this regular championship thanks in particular to 28 points and 11 assists from Trae Young.
Capela has done the job against his former team. The Geneva interior compiled 18 points (7/10 shooting) and 13 rebounds (including 7 captured in the offensive phase). Best rebounder in the League last season, he finished 4th this time with an average of 11.8 catches per game.
