Nancy was “too annoying” for a Swiss passport

“Farmer, single, looking for” vegan Nancy was denied the Swiss passport twice. Reason: She campaigned for animal welfare.

the essentials in brief

  • Nancy Holten made a name for herself with two failed attempts at naturalization.
  • The residents of Gipf-Oberfrick found the vegan too annoying for the Swiss passport.
  • The 47-year-old successfully lodged a complaint.

Nancy Holten (47) should be known to reality fans from programs such as “Bauer, single, sucht” and “Shopping Queen”. A few years ago, the vegan made headlines with something completely different.

Born in the Netherlands, she failed twice when she tried to be naturalized. In 2015, 144 of the 206 residents of the Aargau municipality Gipf-Oberfrick spoke out against receiving the Swiss passport. Two years later, they again refused her application.

Nancy Holten: Successful appeal

Reason: Holten rebelled against traditions. The vegan, who has lived in Switzerland since childhood, spoke out in favor of a ban on cowbells. She also fought against the hunt, pig races and the loud church bells.

As a result, the residents of Gipf-Oberfrick found Holten too “annoying” for the red passport.

The former “farmer, single, looking” candidate was not impressed by this. She appealed against the decision – with success. Today, Holten is the proud owner of the Swiss passport.
