A Christmas decoration fell from the ceiling in the Mythen Center in Ibach SZ. Six people were injured. Five people have already been able to leave the hospital.
At the Mythen Center they are relieved that only one person is still receiving hospital treatment.
The shopping center will be open to visitors again on Monday. “The employees are very concerned,” says Managing Director Camenzind, describing the mood.
“We wish all injured people a speedy recovery,” says Mario Camenzind, managing director of the Mythen Center in Ibach SZ, opposite 20 minutes. On Saturday, a Christmas decoration fell around ten meters in the shopping center. Six people were injured. Five of them could be discharged from the hospital by Sunday. One person is still in the hospital on Monday morning due to their injuries, as the Schwyz canton police confirmed on request.
Mythen Center wants to contact the injured
A suitcase market took place on Saturday in the Octagon of the Mythen Center, where the decorations fell from the ceiling. According to Camenzind, the center tries to keep in contact with the exhibitors as well as possible. “We try to contact the injured as well,” said the managing director. “But we are happy that five people have already been released.”
The Christmas decorations have been hung for several years
The Mythen Center will be open again on Monday. Nevertheless, the mood in the center is still shaped by the accident. “The employees are very concerned,” said Camenzind. Today it is the turn of the center management to inform the local shops about the accident. Why the crash occurred is still under investigation. The decoration that crashed has been in use for several years. “It was installed by experienced employees of the Mythen Center,” says Camenzind.
Center had to be evacuated because of gawkers
After the accident, the center was evacuated. “There was no longer a security risk, but due to gawkers and out of respect for the injured, we evacuated the center,” said Camenzind. The eviction went without incident. An eyewitness also said that the evacuation proceeded smoothly, given the circumstances. “You always practice contingency plans in the hope that you will never need them. Nevertheless, you are happy when they work in an emergency, ”says the managing director. The cooperation with the blue light organizations also worked well, said Camenzind.
