The American pharmaceutical company Moderna is considering building a factory in Africa for the production of mRNA vaccines. Morocco wants to convince the American giant to establish the factory in the kingdom.
Moderna announced in a press release its plans to establish a plant in Africa where 500 million doses of mRNA vaccines will be produced. For the time being, the laboratory does not want to announce in which country the factory will be located.

Construction of the plant will require an investment of $500 million and will boost the slow progress of the Covid-19 vaccination campaign in Africa.
“We plan to manufacture our Covid-19 vaccine and complementary products within our mRNA vaccine portfolio at this facility,” said Stéphane Bancel, CEO of Moderna. He emphasizes that the production of 500 million doses in 2022 will be gradually adjusted upwards.

Negotiations will be started with several countries in Africa in a few days. Morocco is considered a serious candidate thanks to its experience in the sector. The kingdom is already collaborating with Sinopharm for the production of corona vaccines. The first vaccines produced in Morocco from the Chinese laboratory will be launched in December.
