More than 500,000 applicants for volunteer positions for FIFA events

More than 500,000 people have already registered on the global FIFA volunteer platform. The FIFA Volunteers programme, revamped in December 2020, is one of the most ambitious of its kind in the world of sport. Via its registration portal, it allows in particular to apply for any future FIFA competition. Since October 2021, marking the final year of preparations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, more than 400,000 new volunteers have joined the roster.

The geographical distribution of volunteers highlights the strong interest of regions close to Qatar: 43.2% and 40.2% of candidates come from Asia and Africa respectively. The most spoken language among applicants is English (94.4%), followed by French (23.8%), Spanish (16.7%) and German (3.8%) . Slightly less than half of the volunteers (48.9%) speak another language than the four mentioned above. 53.1% of volunteers have a job while 34.4% are students. The most represented age groups are young people: 42.9% for 24-34 year olds and 36% for 18-24 year olds. Next come the 35-44 year olds, with 15.6%, then the over 45s, with 5.5%. The registration period for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Volunteer Programme, which is the largest volunteer program in Qatar’s history, closes on Sunday 31 July at 23:59 (Doha time) . It aims to bring people together around football in order to help organize the first FIFA World Cup™ in the Middle East and the Arab world. It is an outpouring of love for this sport, called to highlight the spirit of Qatar.
