MALVERN, Pa., April 20 /PRNewswire/ — John Holland, a former Jaguar Land Rover manager, will lead Momentum Dynamics Corporation’s operations as its new Commercial Director for Europe and the Middle East
Momentum Dynamics Corporation has a rapidly growing portfolio of successful automatic high-power wireless EV charging projects in the US and is now taking a major step towards globalization with its expansion into Europe, the Middle East and beyond.
Until now, Momentum has specialized in charging electric buses and trucks. However, as consumer demand for automatic wireless charging of passenger cars increases worldwide, particularly in the luxury segment and in high-traffic taxi operations, Momentum is expanding its global footprint and expanding its product offering. There is also a growing need for automatic wireless charging devices for the emerging autonomous vehicle industry, where hands-free charging is seen as essential.
To accelerate these growth opportunities in Europe and the Middle East, Momentum has announced the appointment of John Holland, formerly of Jaguar Land Rover, as the new Commercial Director for Europe and the Middle East. He brings a wealth of experience in the passenger and autonomous vehicle space.
“The Momentum team is excited and proud to have John Holland represent us across the Atlantic in all areas,” said Bob Kacergis, Momentum’s Chief Commercial Officer. “John has demonstrated his ability to to deliver a large portfolio of complex projects with multiple partners.Having such an experienced automotive professional join Momentum from Jaguar Land Rover is a great achievement for our company.John has vision and boundless energy and he believes strongly in our technology. We anticipate remarkable development – and we are already seeing results. John’s unique background in automotive engineering, as well as his leadership in successful wireless integration, will serve us well as we push into the passenger car market.”
John has over 24 years of automotive industry experience and is a proven commercial partnership leader and strategic business development expert. He can look back on an impressive catalog of successful program implementations.
Immediately prior to joining Momentum, John led Jaguar Land Rover’s partnership with Waymo, Google’s autonomous driving company. A world premiere: The all-electric Jaguar I-Pace now drives autonomously through the streets of the USA. John’s business development team delivered the program that produced the world’s first all-electric Google Street View / Air View (air quality monitoring) vehicle in Dublin. While at JLR, John also led the world’s first wireless charging EV fleet fleet program in partnership with Momentum Dynamics, where he became aware of Momentum.
At Momentum, John’s role is to expand wireless charging outside of the US and lead new partnerships in the automotive space. John will also lead the company’s high utilization commercial fleet business in these new target regions. Momentum has set itself the goal of fundamentally changing the charging process for e-vehicles: In the future, charging should be invisible and automatic and simply take place in the background without you having to think about it.
“I firmly believe that Momentum Dynamics has technology that will change the world for the better. The ability to run EVs with heavy loads throughout the day, with frequent “opportunistic” charging, reduces the need to carry huge battery packs to achieve long range. The increasing material value of batteries, as demand so far outstrips supply, will shift the focus to more responsible and sustainable use. Significantly cheaper, lighter and more efficient electric vehicles will be able to drive all day without having to worry about charging. This type of charging is also easier on the battery, as it is good for health and battery longevity improves by maintaining a partial charge,” says John.
John Holland is a professional chartered engineer from IMechE in the UK. He holds a 1st Class Honors degree in Manufacturing Engineering and Management from Loughborough University in the UK. In 2017 he received the Leadership Award from the Chartered Quality Institute. John is also a recipient of the European Henry Ford Technology Award for Innovation and a two-time winner of the annual Global Tata Edge Award. John has worked in many technical disciplines during his career; however, he considers the challenge of bringing a whole range of vehicle models into mass production as his greatest achievement.
Focused on quality improvement and excellence for several years, John has led JLR’s 6 Sigma program as a Master Black Belt and Lean-Kaizen Sensei. He also became the first Tata Business Excellence Model (TBEM) Assessor at JLR and achieved the highest score of a first-time applicant in the Tata group and achieved the highest year-on-year improvement in the group the following year.
Wireless charging keeps fleets moving
Wireless charging for electric vehicles enables automatic charging on the fly. Charging buses at bus stops, taxis at taxi ranks, vans at the loading bay and ferries at the port enables highly efficient transport operations. There are no downtimes caused by loading. The loading process is automatic and requires no action or supervision by the driver, who can continue with his main tasks such as loading the vehicle or looking after the passengers. The system works in any weather and is unaffected by rain, ice or snow.
Automated wireless charging also enables automated charging of the full range of autonomous vehicles, including restricted-access fleets (logistics yards, vehicle depots, geofencing areas) and open-access fleets (delivery vehicles, shared mobility, and passenger vehicles).
