A new software version for Xiaomi smartphones is to be released this year. Now a developer has disclosed which devices MIUI 13 could get first.

MIUI 13 should have appeared in the summer with the flagship device Mi Mix 4. The latest version of Xiaomi’s Android-based user interface is still a long time coming.

Now a developer has discovered a hint in the source code of the new software from the Chinese smartphone manufacturer. He claims to have seen which devices will soon receive a stable version of the update.

“Xiaomi & MIUI News” posted the list of devices on theirs Twitter-Kanal. This includes six devices from the main brand Xiaomi and three models from the sub-brand Redmi:

  • Xiaomi Mix 4
  • Xiaomi 11 Pro / Ultra
  • Xiaomi 11
  • Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G
  • Xiaomi 10 S
  • Redmi K40
  • Redmi K40 Pro / Pro +

MIUI 13 should come this year

When MIUI 13 will be officially presented is still unclear. Only that it will be before the end of 2021. This is what the founder and CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, promised at least in early November. According to this, the Chinese version of the software should appear first before the end of the year and the adjustments for other countries will follow a few weeks later.

Many Xiaomi users are still waiting for the last update to MIUI 12.5. This has been gradually rolled out on various devices since spring 2021 – and not without problems. Because since MIUI 12, users have apparently increasingly struggled with bugs in the Xiaomi software. That could sometimes be a reason why the number 13 is taking longer to come.

In order to polish up its own user interface a bit, Xiaomi has launched a task force. The MIUI Pioneer team consists of Xiaomi employees and members of the community and is supposed to improve the problems of the software on the basis of feedback.

Lots of changes with MIUI 13

But the long wait could be worth it. MIUI 13 should bring many fundamental innovations with it: According to various leaks in the course of the year, the upcoming update should improve performance and battery life, among other things. In addition, many changes in the user interface are to be added, such as new live wallpapers and themes, new gestures and new widgets. In addition, users should be given new options for memory expansion.

MIUI 13 will mainly be based on Android 12. Even so, some smartphones will get a MIUI 13 version based on Android 11, writes Gizchina.

Accompanied by the new flagship

MIUI 13 is not the only product from Xiaomi that should appear before the end of the year. The successor to the Mi 11 – the Xiaomi 12 – is also expected in December. It is therefore reasonable to assume that the Chinese manufacturer could combine the launch of the Xiaomi 12 with the presentation of the latest software update.
