Microsoft’s Patch Day update causes Office to crash

August 15, 2022 –
Microsoft has since withdrawn the update for Microsoft 365 that was distributed as part of August Patch Day. The reason for this is unwanted crashes when using various Office applications.

Some Microsoft 365 users are experiencing unexpected crashes when using various Office applications after installing the update published as part of August Patch Day, as “Winfuture” reports. According to the report, the crashes are caused by using version 2206 or build 15330.20298 when users try to open a contact card or hover over names or photos in emails, comments or shared documents. This applies to Excel, Word, Power Point and Skype for Business applications.

Microsoft has reportedly responded to the bug and pulled the update and is working on a fix. Users affected by the issue are advised to downgrade to the previous version 2205. Microsoft has already started distributing a corresponding rollback. (off)
