ATLANTA — A metro Atlanta woman is the new reigning ‘Jeopardy!’ champion.

Danielle Maurer, a digital marketing engineer from Peachtree Corners, beat Toronto tutor Mattea Roach in Friday’s episode. Roach was on a 23-game winning streak and had amassed a total of $560,983 during that time.

The craziest part? Maurer only beat out the champ by a margin of $1 during the Final Jeopardy round on a question about Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Heading into the final round, Roach was up $19,200 to Maurer’s $11,400.

The contestants were given the category USA and given the clue:

These 2 mayors gave their names to a facility built on the site of an old racetrack owned by Coca-Cola magnate Asa Candler.

Maurer was the only contestant to give the correct answer of William Hartsfield and Maynard Jackson.

Her $4,200 wager boosted her to a final score of $15,600. Roach’s wrong answer and wager of $3,601 gave her a final score of $15,599.

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport recently reclaimed its spot as the busiest airport in the world.

TRENDING STORIES:

Host Ken Jennings assured the audience that questions are written and randomly assigned to games months before contestants are assigned to the games, so Maurer receiving a clue about Atlanta’s airport was just a coincidence.

By becoming the new champion, Maurer will appear in Monday’s episode against a new batch of challengers to see if she can turn that win into a streak.
