MediaTek processors engraved in 6 nm

MediaTek just launched three new chipsets. These are the Dimensity 1050, the Dimensity 930 and the SoC Helio G99. For the design of the last two, the firm relied on the 6 nm engraving process of TSMC. What do these chips offer us?

Dimensity 930 SoC coming soon

As a reminder, the Dimensity 930 is the successor to the Dimensity 920 from 2021. They have almost similar characteristics. Having an octa-core configuration, they offer six ARM Cortex-A55 performance cores clocked at up to 2 GHz. The other two are ARM Cortex-A78. On the other hand, the brand new SoC has downlocked performance with a frequency of 2 GHz against 2.5 GHz for its predecessor. Devices using this chipset could enjoy better battery performance.

This chip finally supports high-end UFS 3.1 storage as well as fast LPDDR5 memory. Previously, this feature was intended for the flagship market. It is now available for mid-range smartphones.

Regarding connectivity, the Dimensity 930 takes advantage of True Dual 5G SIM. This allows the use of two different 5G cards in a single phone. Unfortunately, it still uses the old Wifi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2 standards.

The Helio G99 chip will debut from the third quarter of 2022

The Helio G99 SoC represents MediaTek’s latest processor for affordable smartphones. It works with devices under 4G/LTE network. This new chip can deliver power efficiency by improving battery life by 30% for gaming.

If the Helio G96 is engraved in 12 nm, the Helio G99 follows TSMC’s 6 nm engraving process. It includes 2 ARM Cortex-A76 performance cores clocked up to 2 GHz. The six efficiency cores are ARM Cortex-A55 with a frequency of up to 2 GHz. The Mali G57 GPU provides graphics.

This processor uses LPDDR4X memory and UFS 2.2 storage when it comes to connectivity. It offers Wifi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2. Also, it can support displays with FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.

Conclusion

As a reminder, Qualcomm has just presented two new processors which are the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Plus and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. To respond to its competitor, MediaTek is also launching these three chips for entry-level and mid-range smartphones. No word has been said about the phones first exploiting the Dimensity 930 and Helio G99.
