24 november 2021 – It was not exactly the night of the Dutch in the Champions League. Marten de Roon and Teun Koopmeiners did bad business with Atalanta with a 3-3 draw, while Wout Weghorst lost to Sevilla. However, Memphis Depay and Donny van de Beek in particular had a disappointing evening. Their poor playing drew a lot of criticism.

From Daily Mail was not impressed by Van de Beek’s game. “He was ignored by Solskjaer and barely showed his claim to a permanent base at Manchester United. He was not on the same level with his teammates. That is not surprising, because he was only in the starting lineup for five games,” the newspaper writes about the midfielder who also received a yellow card.

Also The Sun was tough. ‘Van de Beek played an anonymous match. Perhaps Solskjaer was right in recent weeks by putting him on the bench. Van de Beek did well against Watford this weekend, but we can expect a lot more from a player who has cost 40 million euros.’

There was also criticism for a Dutchman in Spain. Mark expect much more from Memphis Depay, who failed to prevent a 0-0 draw against Benfica. “He’s a good footballer, but don’t let the team play better. He is not the star player that Barcelona should build a team around.” Frenkie de Jong did receive favorable reviews from the press.
