ILIGAN CITY – Heavily armed men ambushed Masiu's convoy, the mayor of Lanao del Sur, Nasser Pangandaman Jr. on Sunday morning in the Buadipuso-Buntong municipality.
Colonel Madzgani Mukaram, police chief of Lanao del Sur, said that Pangandaman Jr. was coming to his office from Marawi when gunmen armed with high-powered firearms drove his convoy to Barangay Gata.
Pangandaman survived the attack, although a police escort, Staff Sergeant Jabbar Romato Pangandaman and two civilian companions were injured.
Mukaram said SSg. Pangandaman and the two civilians were last listed in a stable state.
Lieutenant-Colonel Edgar Allan Villanueva, commander of the 49th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, said that Mr. Pangandaman was to chair the regular meeting of his city peace and order council at 10 o'clock on Sunday
The city of Masiu is located in the area of operations of the 49IB, while Buadiposo Buntong, where the ambush has occurred, is part of the 82nd IB.
Buadiposo Buntong is about 10 kilometers from Masiu.
"Our police and our army soldiers under the 82IB are searching the area for a possible arrest of the culprits. A special working group will also be activated to help monitor the progress of this case, "said Mukaram. / gsg
