Manchester City clinched a spectacular victory in the English Premier League on Thursday. The defending champions turned a 0-2 deficit against Tottenham into a 4-2 win in front of their home crowd and thus left the field as the winner after two defeats in competitive games in a row. Second in the table are five points behind leaders Arsenal, but the Gunners have a game in hand.
The hosts initially had the better chances, but fell behind due to a mistake by goalie Ederson. The Brazilian forced Rodri to make a bad pass with a failed pass, Dejan Kulusevski gratefully accepted the gift (44′). Just before the break, Ederson palmed a sharp cross from Harry Kane from a tight angle right at Emerson Royal, who headed in to make it 2-0 for the Londoners.
After the change of sides, the “Citizens” managed to turn the game around within twelve minutes. First Julian Alvarez got the ball (51′), then Erling Haaland headed in from close range (53′) and finally Riyad Mahrez surprised Tottenham goalie Hugo Lloris with a shot into the near corner (63′). The Algerian also made the final score (90′) after a mistake by Clement Lenglet.
