TASS, 30 July. Liverpool beat Manchester City 3-1 to win the FA Super Cup. The meeting took place on Saturday at the King Power Stadium in Leicester.
As part of the winners, goals were scored by Trent Alexander-Arnold (21st minute), Mohammed Salah (83, from the penalty spot) and Darwin Nunez (90 + 4). Julian Alvarez scored at Manchester City (70).
The FA Super Cup has been played since 1908, with the winner of the English Premier League and the winner of the previous season’s FA Cup competing for the trophy. Manchester City won the Premier League title in 2021/22 with 93 points, one point ahead of Liverpool. Liverpool beat Chelsea 0-0, 6-5 in the FA Cup final on penalties. Liverpool have won the Super Cup for the 16th time and are equal in this indicator with Arsenal, Manchester United has the most wins in the FA Super Cup (21).
Liverpool will take on Fulham in the first round of the Premier League on August 6. Manchester City will face West Ham the next day.
