“Leclerc no longer has the right to make mistakes”

After the Grand Slam achieved by Max Verstappen last weekend at Imola, Charles Leclerc can no longer afford the slightest mistake this season.

While Ferrari were the favorites at home at Imola, Charles Leclerc finally endured a trying weekend, conceding 19 points to Max Verstappen in his mishap.

This significant loss of points, which is partly due to the error made by Leclerc in the last laps of the race, allowed Verstappen to relaunch in the race for the title, and to return to only 27 lengths of the Monegasque.

« If you’re fighting for the championship against a driver of Verstappen’s calibre, you can’t afford to spin judge Nico Rosberg, who won the world championship title against Lewis Hamilton in 2016.

« I know he was chasing Pérez but the pressure was on the Red Bull, not the Ferrari. So, to make such a mistake… Charles absolutely has to avoid that for the rest of the season if he wants to have a chance of winning the title this year against Verstappen. »

Rosberg believes Ferrari also erred in recalling Leclerc to the pits after his spin to replace his front wing.

« They should have left it on the track for one more lap to see if the front wing would hold upcomments the former Mercedes driver. Structurally, it looked okay. He just lacked a small drift on the right side, so he could have gone all the way to the finish and saved a fourth place. In my opinion, Ferrari made a mistake here. »
