Russia-NATO talks

If NATO and the United States do not accept Russia’s proposals on security guarantees, then Russia will assess the situation and act in its own interests. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. According to him, the Russian Federation is waiting for a written response from NATO and the United States.

“If our guarantee proposals are rejected, we will assess the situation and act in the interests of our security. There is reason to believe that NATO in the coming months may begin to build up forces near the Russian Federation under the pretext of the situation in Ukraine,” Lavrov said during a press conference broadcast on the Foreign Ministry’s Youtebe channel.

He noted that Russia is waiting for a written response from the alliance and the United States on security guarantees, but is ready for any development of the situation. Lavrov also answered the question why the Russian Federation raised the issue of non-expansion of NATO just now. “It has accumulated,” he said. According to him, Russia’s patience with the West’s actions is over. “We harnessed for a long time – now it’s time to go, we are waiting for the driver on that wagon to answer us,” the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Russia recently held security talks with NATO and the United States, where Ukraine was also discussed. Moscow demanded that the alliance not expand to the east and not include Ukraine. The parties did not come to a mutual agreement. NATO refused to compromise on the deployment of troops in the east, RT quotes NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The United States threatened the Russian Federation with sanctions in the event of an attack on Kiev. Also, a group of Democratic senators introduced a bill imposing sanctions on Lavrov, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, banks – Sberbank, VTB and Gazprombank. State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that the United States needs to think about the consequences and threatened that Moscow would have weapons. According to him, sanctions do not scare anyone, but they can destroy relations.
