Laptop Best Buy Guide XL

It’s August again and that means the back-to-school period is in full swing: the time of year when many buy a new laptop for school or study. Enough reason for us to present an extra extensive edition of the Best Buy Guide, just like in previous years. We will look for the best Chromebook, the best affordable Windows laptop for no more than 500 euros, a midrange laptop that can cost 700 euros, the best Apple Macbooks and a luxury Windows powerhouse with a large screen and separate video card.

At the beginning of this year, both AMD and Intel released new laptop processors. Laptops with the new Ryzen 6000 and Intel 12th Gen CPUs are now very sparse in the shops, but the bulk of the devices still have an older chip. This certainly applies to the models that are sold the most and which we therefore also emphasize in the BBG, priced between 400 and 1000 euros. The back-to-school period is a great opportunity for manufacturers to get rid of that old stock. That means now is the time to score a good deal. Certainly the somewhat older Ryzen processors are not slow at all compared to the newer series, where you can get eight cores in the front for only seven hundred euros. A few years ago you paid thousands of euros for a laptop with that amount of computing power. Intel’s eleventh generation can especially keep up with singlecore performance, where there is also a good igpu present.

Even if you want a fast and luxurious laptop, it can be interesting to buy one now. In this category we already see the necessary machines with a 12th generation Intel processor. Those processors – or the Ryzen alternative from AMD – are linked to video cards that are a bit older, but the new generations of Nvidia and AMD will most likely take a while. So your brand new device will not be overtaken by faster equipment in no time.

If you don’t want a Windows laptop, but rather an Apple Macbook, a few new choices have recently been added. Apple has refreshed its range with new 13″ laptops, namely the Macbook Air and Macbook Pro with M2 processor, both of which we have reviewed. The Macbook Air in particular has been significantly improved, but also a lot more expensive than its predecessor based on of M1 chip, which is still available today.Like last year’s Macbook Pros with M1 Pro and Max CPUs, its price still makes it attractive.
