The surgeon and member of the Network of Physicians for Health, Julio Castro, highlighted the absence of the 15 essential elements that emergencies in hospitals in Venezuela must have.
“The life of the patient may be in danger for this reason (…) this situation in the Venezuelan health system is a chronic disease that is already more than 10 to 12 years old and that the pandemic has also added to it,” he mentioned.
Castro considered, in an interview given to the A Tiempo program of Unión Radio, that the national executive should give him more attention and investment in health.
«Venezuela is the country with the least investment in health. When you compare the percentage of GDP that goes to health in Venezuela, it is less than 4 percent,” he said.
Regarding the lack of security for medical personnel, according to their own surveys, 35% of hospitals do not have security in the event of any irregularity.
“Because a father arrives with a child with asthma and they tell him that there is no medicine, in some cases that father can act violently. The face that he has there is the doctor and the nurse », he mentioned.
