Johnny Depp is actually suing a British publisher.

London Rose war on trial: Rarely has Britain experienced such a mud fight by celebrities in a lawsuit as in the case of the US actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Drugs, alcohol abuse, a severed fingertip, feces in bed and repeated allegations of violence: For weeks, Depp (57) and his 23-year-old ex-wife painted a deeply destructive relationship. The key question was: is Depp (“Pirates of the Caribbean”) a women’s thug? On the last day, too, things went high in the court. The verdict will be announced in a few weeks.

Last day of the trial

On the last day of the trial, many fans were gathered in front of the High Court in London. They had flowers with them and shouted encouragingly to Depp: “We love you!” Or “Justice for Johnny!”. Heard came to the court on Tuesday in black dress and holding hands with her partner Bianca Butti. Since July 7, both sides had blamed themselves there. Depp’s lawyer even called Heard a “compulsive liar”.

Depp is actually suing the British tabloid “The Sun” for an article alleging that he physically abused Heard. The actress testified in court that she was terrified of her ex-husband: “He has explicitly threatened me many times to kill me.” Heard presented photos that allegedly show stains caused by Depp. He shouted, kicked and even choked on her many times. She also accused her ex-husband of being “very good at manipulating people”. He blamed a “monster” for his misconduct.

But Depp turned the tables in the process: he accused his ex-wife of being violent himself. For example, in one of the many arguments, she threw a bottle at him and thus cut off part of his finger. He then painted a mirror with the blood. The relationship with Heard (“Zombie Land”) was “complicated”, but he had never done violence to her.

He received support from ex-partners. US actress Winona Ryder (48) said she had only met Depp as a “really good man” during her four-year relationship. He had never been violent or abusive to anyone. The French singer too Vanessa Paradis (47), with whom Depp had been together for 14 years and has two grown children, said that she had seen him as “friendly, attentive, generous and non-violent”.

Depp is one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood. He and Heard met while filming The Rum Diary and married in 2015, but separated in 2016 after only 15 months of marriage. Depp repeatedly suffered from his drug and alcohol addiction. He also admitted it himself. Was he violent against his ex-wife in a frenzy? Or is Heard playing a bad game to get more attention as an actress looking at her career?

Richter Andrew Nicol must now carefully weigh all statements and make a judgment: But that will probably only be in a few weeks, probably in September, said a court spokeswoman. It’s not the couple’s only legal battle: Depp has also filed a defamation lawsuit in the United States. There he complains directly against his ex-wife. She had reported on her experiences of violence in the Washington Post without naming him. No matter how the process ends in London: commentators think that both are already the losers. There should be a winner: the “Sun”.
