Joe Smith commented on the defeat against Beterbiev

32 year old American boxer Joe Smith Jr. commented on his defeat by knockout in the second round from the Russian boxer Artur Beterbiev June 18 in New York, in which the American lost his WBO light heavyweight title, and Beterbiev unified the WBC, IBF and WBO belts in this weight.

“Things didn’t go as planned last weekend as I forgot about my fight plan after my mistake which resulted in me getting hit behind the ear. He took me off balance and I couldn’t recover after that,” Smith wrote on social networks. “I needed to take a deep breath, calm down and continue boxing, and I just wanted to fight, which again lured me into the same trap. I’m going to rest, keep myself in shape and make a decision about what awaits me in the future.”

Recall that in that fight Smith was knocked down at the end of the first round, and it seems that it was that blow that broke his coordination, but in the second round the American again went to the opponent, which led to two more knockdowns and to stop the fight.
