Munich/San Francisco – From mr. Irrelevant to the Super Bowl hero?
What sounds like a cheesy script for a Hollywood sports movie could become reality.
At least if you want to believe Joe Montana.
The living legend of the San Francisco 49ers claimed Brock Purdy could lead the team from California to a Super Bowl victory.
Montana on Purdy: “If he does…”
“If he keeps doing what he’s been doing this past week, then yes,” the two-time MVP, who has led the Niners to four Super Bowl victories in his career, answered in the “USA Today.” a corresponding one Question.
Drafted 262nd and last by the 49ers, Purdy made an impressive debut last Sunday.
After Jimmy Garoppolo was seriously injured in the game against the Miami Dolphins, Purdy replaced him.
And the 22-year-old from Iowa State put on a performance on the Levi’s Stadium turf that, combined with the strong performance of the defense, had even 49ers icon Montana dreaming of a big triumph.
Purdy shines with two touchdowns
In the 33:17 win, he completed 25 of 37 passes for 261 yards and also threw two touchdowns.
Next Sunday (from 22:20 live on ProSieben and in the live stream), Purdy will start an NFL game for the first time. Expectations from him could hardly be greater after his gala against the Dolphins and Montana’s testimony.
As is the reputation of his next opponent, by the way. Tom Brady is honored with his Tampa Buccaneers.
