Books – Ahmed Gomaa:
Dr. Rana Al-Hajjah, Director of Programs Department at the World Health Organization, said that black fungus is a very rare disease, and it does not occur through person-to-person transmission.
This came in her speech during the press conference held by the organization’s regional office today, Wednesday, to talk about the developments in the epidemiological situation of Corona.
She added that black fungus only affects those with severely weakened immunity. It occurs as a result of exposure to fungi in the surrounding environment, when the cells are inhaled, which then travel to infect the lungs and sinuses, and spread until they reach the brain or eyes.
The argument stressed that although there is no direct link between corona and mucormycosis, symptoms of this disease appear in some corona patients due to the severe decrease in immunity, poor diabetes control, and misuse of cortisone.
She said it’s important to seek advice from healthcare officials if you have underlying health conditions, such as uncontrollable diabetes and malignancies that put you at risk for more severe COVID-19 and black fungus.
