Israel arrests Palestinian suspects in Elad attack

Israel has arrested two Palestinians in Thursday’s attack in Elad, which killed three and injured four. The police said this in a joint statement with the army and the Shin Bet intelligence service. It has not been disclosed where the suspects were arrested or who they are.

The ax attack was committed on Independence Day near a busy park in the ultra-Orthodox city. After the attack, a manhunt was launched for the perpetrators, who according to eyewitnesses ran through Elad, a city 15 kilometers north of Tel Aviv, brandishing an ax. Israel previously said the suspects live near Jenin in the occupied West Bank and are 19 and 20 years old.

The attack has not yet been claimed, but the Palestinian terrorist movement Hamas called it a “heroic action”. There have been more attacks in recent weeks in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. The Israeli army also carried out actions in the West Bank and increased violence in East Jerusalem. Fears of a further resurgence of violence are mounting.
