09.06.2021 | (rsn) – Intermarché – Wanty Gobert will no longer compete in the 4th stage of the Tour de Suisse. The reason is the positive corona test of an employee on Tuesday, which means that the Belgian team will no longer start in Sankt Urban.
“It wasn’t an easy decision, but we want to be careful and protect the racing bladder even if everyone else in the group tested negative. The health of our employees and drivers is our top priority, so we and the race management decided to leave the Tour de Suisse ”, said team manager Jean-Francois Bourlart in a press release.
The organizer also made a statement in a bulletin. “Due to the multiple tests, the affected team is allowed to continue the race. Due to the sophisticated test regime, it can be ensured that neither the other members of the affected team nor other teams or persons are at risk. Nevertheless, the team management of Intermarché – Wanty – Gobert decided to leave the Tour de Suisse today. As organizers, we respect this decision for the benefit of everyone, ”it says there.
For the tour of Switzerland, Georg Zimmermann is part of Intermarché – Wanty Gobert. Together with the German, Jan Hort, Maurits Lammertink, Simone Petilli, Baptiste Planckaert, Pieter Vanspeybroeck and Lorenzo Rota, who was the best-placed driver in the team, was 26th overall.
