Instagram launched its new quick security check feature. The objective is to guide people whose accounts have been hacked and inform them of the necessary steps to secure them.
The rapid security check or Security Checkup has the main objective “to help people keep their Instagram accounts safe,” according to the company in a statement.
To help people whose accounts have been exposed, Steps to secure them include checking your login activity, reviewing your profile information, confirming accounts that share login information, and updating your contact information. for account recovery, as well as phone number or email.
However, the social network reminded users that it has other security mechanisms, and recommended enabling two-step authentication through WhatsApp accounts or the phone number, as well as updating the associated phone number and email. .
How to enable two-step authentication
The second authentication factor consists of the use of a token as a second verification measure. When using this option, even when someone accesses your password, they will not be able to enter the account because they will be requested that second authentication factor, a token, which is received by SMS or by an authentication app such as Authy or Google Authenticator, among others. . In some cases, the same mobile (device) can even be used as a means of identity verification.
To activate this option in Instagram you have to go to Settings, then Security and “Two-step authentication”, where you must choose, as mentioned above, how you want to receive that verification token.
Other security measures to consider
Instagram reminded users that it will never contact them by direct message. This notice follows an increase in recent months in malicious accounts sending direct messages to people asking them to provide them with confidential information, such as their username and password.
“When we discover these types of scams, we take action on them. However, we recommend that you report the content and block the account that sent you the message. In the last two months, we have sent notices to the top of people’s inboxes to alert them to these messages, ”the company said in a statement.
The social network only contacts the user through the “Instagram emails” tab in the configuration section, which is the only place in the app where direct and authentic Instagram communications will be found.
Users also have the ability to report suspicious content and accounts, the option to activate the login request to confirm that access to the account comes from the owner.
For its part, the Support Mailbox also added changes so that you can find the latest information about what is happening with user complaints, or find out if any of your posts violate policies.
