Hiking, kayaking, climbing: Sophia Cheung († 32) loved being in nature. The Chinese influencer repeatedly found herself in dangerous situations, as the pictures on her Instagram profile show. This thirst for adventure became her undoing. As the “Daily Star” writes, Cheung fell to his death on July 11th.
The social media star was on a hiking excursion with friends in the Ha-Pak-Lai Natural Park in Hong Kong that day. There she posed for a selfie over a waterfall before losing her footing. Her friends watched helplessly as Cheung fell five meters into the Tsing Dai River. Although rescue workers were able to rescue her and bring her to the hospital immediately, the influencer died shortly afterwards.
Risky poses again and again
It was one of Cheung’s trademarks that she kept posing in risky places. So she swings off a rock in a photo on her profile. On another, she stands on a wafer-thin edge and looks into the depths.
In her last photo, Cheung is posing with a wakeboard. She writes: “There will be better days: and they are called Saturday and Sunday.” But their fans can hardly believe that the following Sunday was their last. Condolences pile up under her last photo. (klm)
