They continue to fight for every gram on the car – and for every million that the budget allows. But exactly: the golden years of spending money in Formula 1 have been over since 2021.
In the past, Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes almost innocently threw the necessary money into the money-destroying machine. Big savings are the order of the day everywhere. Only a few things are not checked by the FIA accountants. This includes the wages of the three most expensive employees plus the salary of the pilots.
Motorhome costs not in budget
And important: The transport and all costs of the motorhomes with all the catering (Sauber needs 7 trucks for this, Aston Martin for example 18!) do not come under the hammer of the budget law.
The limit there is now $141.2 million – the 1.2 million addition comes from the 22nd race. Each Grand Prix more than 21 World Championship races is compensated with 1.2 million. And by 2024 at the latest there should be 24 races!
“Moaning is getting on my nerves!”
Now seven teams are whining about inflation! They want an inflation surcharge. But you need the okay of eight teams. Alpine, Williams and especially Alfa-Sauber are (still) against it. who falls over
Certainly not Hinwil with Chef Vasseur: “The over 6 percent inflation is certainly not force majeure. Inflation is a natural process that happens from time to time. You have to include that in the planning. Freight, electricity and material have also become more expensive for us. We still manage somehow. All that moaning is getting on my nerves!”
