Dhe health authorities in Germany reported 1,204 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day. This is evident from the figures from Tuesday morning, which reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 5:02 a.m. For comparison: a week ago the value was 1785 infections. The RKI gave the seven-day incidence on Tuesday morning nationwide as 22.9 (previous day: 24.3; previous week: 35.2).
The highest incidences were recorded in Saarland (28.5) and Baden-Württemberg (28.0). There are the fewest infections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (8.7) and Schleswig-Holstein (11.0).
According to the information, 140 new deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 153 dead.
Seven-day R-value is going down
The RKI has counted 3,702,688 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, however, since many infections are not recognized. The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 3,549,900. The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 is now given as 89,384.
According to the RKI management report on Monday, the nationwide seven-day R-value was 0.76 (previous day: 0.81). This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 76 more people. The R-value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides; if it is consistently higher, the number of cases increases.
FDP calls for special investigators in the dispute over corona protective masks
In the debate about the distribution of supposedly less tested corona protective masks, the FDP is meanwhile calling for the use of a special investigator. FDP parliamentary group deputy Michael Theurer told the editorial network Germany: “The facts indicate a long chain of errors by Minister Spahn. We have the impression that the processes that have now become known about ordering masks are only the tip of the iceberg. ”The processes must be cleared up quickly and completely.
Unfortunately, it is now too late for a committee of inquiry in the Bundestag, said Theurer with a view to the upcoming Bundestag election in September. He demanded: “The Federal Government or the Bundestag must therefore immediately appoint a special investigator, who should ideally come from the Federal Audit Office.”
The background to the debate, which is mainly being carried out between the Union and the SPD and which is therefore burdening the black-red coalition, is a “Spiegel” report on how allegedly inferior corona masks ordered in China are handled. According to plans by the Ministry of Health, headed by Minister Jens Spahn (CDU), masks that have not been tested to high standards should go to facilities for people with disabilities or for the homeless. After an intervention by the Ministry of Labor, this was refrained from. Spahn had rejected the allegations. The masks from China have been proven to have been checked. Although they do not have EU certification, they are safe in terms of infection protection. On Monday, Chancellor Angela Merkel and Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet demonstrated behind Spahn.
The SPD leadership had upheld calls for resignation against Spahn on Monday. The Greens parliamentary group in the Bundestag accuses the Ministry of Health of having distributed inferior masks in the summer. “The partly inferior masks were sent to the federal states, to statutory health insurance associations, to nursing homes and to institutions for the homeless and integration aid,” said the health expert of the Green parliamentary group, Maria Klein-Schmeink, the editorial network Germany. As early as August, the masks came back from nursing homes with the information that the material was “inferior”, the masks “smelled strange” or “the brackets tear easily”.
The board spokesman of the German Society for Hospital Hygiene (DGKH) told the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”: “We have a wealth of references to fake goods for the import masks that do not even begin to meet the quality requirements in the medical field, but are still used. “
