Researchers analyzed medical records from the US national registry during the pandemic. The sample of patients consisted of people who took or did not take statins before contracting COVID-19 and hospitalization.
In total, specialists analyzed medical records of more than 10 thousand patients. Scientists have found that the drug reduces the risk of death from coronavirus in hospitals by 41%. The study claims that the anti-COVID-19 properties of statins may also be related to angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (AF2). It is a membrane protein that helps the coronavirus enter cells.
