According to the Guadeloupe chain the 1st, the epicenter was about 36 kilometers from Basse-Terre and 19 kilometers from Pointe-Noire, but several islands in the area were also impacted by this earthquake, starting with Martinique. But according to the Seismological Research Center of the University of the West Indies (UWI), the earthquake would rather have a magnitude of 6.1, and even 6.2 according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).

No risk of tsunami

The Minister of the Interior and Overseas, Gérald Darmanin, reacted quickly after the announcement of the earthquake, which lasted “long secondsaccording to the first testimonies.
