Coronavirus COVID-19

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) does not approve the Russian coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V for political and economic reasons. This was stated by a member of the Bundestag committee on international affairs from the “Alternative for Germany” Peter Bystron.

“The approval decision is made by the EMA. The agency does not allow the use of the Russian vaccine for political and economic reasons. It protects the market so that large Western pharmaceutical companies can sell their drugs without competition,” said Petr Bystron in an interview with Izvestia.

He also added that the agency does not recognize Sputnik V in order not to ensure the inflow of foreign currency into Russia. “If the EMA were to evaluate vaccines purely from a medical point of view, Sputnik V would have been approved in the EU a long time ago,” Bystron concluded.

Earlier it was reported that the World Health Organization (WHO) promised the speedy recognition of Sputnik V. The WHO said that the recognition of “Sputnik V” is delayed only because of the verification of technological processes. In January, the EMA approved the manufacturing technology for the Russian vaccine. The Russian ambassador explained why Russia and China have not yet recognized each other’s vaccines, RT reports.
