Guo Taiming, Chairman of Hon Hai Group, who is striving for the nomination of the KMT for the 2024 presidential election, threw out the issue of “one county, one nuclear power”. During the five-day municipal general inquiry of the New Taipei City Council, the blue and green councilors questioned the development of nuclear power; Mayor Hou Youyi reiterated the need to do a good job in nuclear safety And properly dispose of nuclear waste, “Without nuclear safety, there will be no nuclear power.” He called on the central government to think clearly about the country’s energy ratio. The most important thing is not to let the people lack electricity.
Democratic Progressive Party member Zheng Yuen asked Hou Youyi, is “one nuclear power plant for one county and city” reasonable? Does the energy policy support nuclear power? Ms. Zhou Yaling pointed out that Hou said that without nuclear safety, there would be no nuclear energy. However, there are nuclear power plants under the jurisdiction of New Taipei City, and some are in the process of decommissioning. She asked Hou Youyi whether the non-nuclear homeland is a common goal and whether nuclear waste is suitable for the application. Put it in New Taipei City?
Hou Youyi replied that without nuclear safety, there would be no nuclear power, and the central government must be able to deal with nuclear waste; the public is now concerned about stability and not lacking electricity, and Taipower has said that it is not appropriate to store nuclear waste in New Taipei City. As for the energy ratio, “there is no nuclear power at this stage”, and renewable energy should be more in place.
KMT member Su Hongqin asked what his views on restarting the nuclear program and how to deal with the current nuclear waste! Hou Youyi said that he has always said that without nuclear safety, there would be no nuclear power, and his position is very clear. As for the restart of the fourth nuclear program, nuclear safety, energy, and public opinion must be evaluated at home and abroad. This is not an easy task.
Hou Youyi pointed out that he served as the chairman of the New Taipei City Nuclear Energy Safety Supervision Committee for 11 years. Experts and scholars of the Nuclear Safety Committee agreed that indoor dry storage is the most ideal and relatively safe way to deal with nuclear waste. However, the central government adopts outdoor dry storage. puzzled.
Hou Youyi said that the central government hopes to promote the non-nuclear homeland by 2025 and achieve 20% of the green energy power generation target, “but judging from the current situation, it is very difficult to achieve it in the remaining two years. It’s very skinny, so there’s a distance, it’s totally impossible.”
He called on the central government to show courage and do a good job in energy allocation, and not to let the non-nuclear homeland become a slogan. The most hope of the people is that there will be no shortage of electricity and enough electricity for use.
