Honduras asked the United Kingdom for “support at the highest level” at the summit of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26), to be held in Scotland next November, to access Green Climate Funds in order to mitigate the effects of climate change in the country.
The request was made by the Secretary General Coordinator of the Government, Carlos Madero, during a meeting with the United Kingdom Regional Ambassador for COP26, Fiona Clouder, in which they discussed the effects of climate change on the Honduran territory.

“Climate change has come to destroy the country’s growth, affecting the poor, which in turn has generated a lot of inequality. Therefore, Honduras respectfully requests the United Kingdom to help us at the highest level and be our interlocutors at the COP26 summit, ”he said.

Madero confirmed that the reconstruction and sustainable development plan will be presented during COP26. “We are going to explore alternatives that allow Honduras, as one of the countries most affected by climate change, better access to climate finance, especially the Green Climate Fund,” said the official.
He explained that Honduras “aspires to establish, wants to seek strategic alliances within COP26, which allow it to participate in the decision-making bodies of climate financing agencies, such as the Green Climate Fund and the Adaptation Fund.”
For her part, the UK Regional Ambassador for COP26, Fiona ClouderHe said that “we must help countries like Honduras that are victims of climate change.”
Clouder commented that the United Kingdom wants to achieve a balance between mitigation and adaptation in countries like Honduras. “We need all donor countries to commit to ambitious projects so that international banks can finance programs to mitigate climate change,” Clouder said.
